Love, Laughter and The Little River Band…

the kangaroo whisperer

the kangaroo whisperer

My mom and sister were just visiting me here in Australia, (they are from Arizona and Florida respectively) and after being out here alone for quite a while now, it was fabulous to get some real family love in my little part of the world.

We had a great time exploring the surrounding suburbs in Brisbane and had some of the best food – not only because the food was fabulous, but sharing the local experience with them was great fun and brisbane ain’t such a bad place…my sister is almost ready to move, except she found it rather expensive here, which, sadly it is compared to the USA.

The multi-cultural aspect of the city was of great interest to them, and they were amazed to try authentic Indian, Malaysian and Japanese food, where even the fast food can be quite tasty!

Rachel and I had a couple of adventures, as the video below shows…wow!

We went up to Mt Tambourine and picked up a triple cream brie and their version of camembert, and my mom reckons the brie was the best she’s ever eaten, which says a lot really as she was a hotel and restaurant critic for AAA for over 10 years.

We rode bikes around the river and had curry on Southbank and Rachel and I bought some of the most astounding fudge on the planet up in Maleny – of course this all happened while we forgot about my mother’s arrival, so as we enjoyed munching on passion fruit fudge, my mom called the police worried that something had happened to us…

Yes it was an embarrassing way to start the trip with mom (my sister arrived 6 days before mom did) – all was forgiven in the end, but Rachel and I hung our heads in shame for a day or two…lol

We took mama for an acupuncture treatment from a guy who Rachel had found for me (he’s now going to be a client, so you’ll  have to check out Rachel’s blog post on the “Hilton Experience” ) and then I cooked some of my trademark pork ribs…this time with some grapefruit sized artichokes as well – and don’t forget the brie and camembert or the fab chardonnay we picked up at the wine tasting in Mt Tambourine.

The ladies freaked out that they knew the songs and even knew the words!

So the three of us proceeded to sing and dance together, in my tiny little flat in Brisbane, like we were freaking hippies at Burning Man, and then my mom started howling in an ever wavering crescendo of operatic-like bursts…

…and .Rachel and I were rolling on the floor, well almost, but here it was at 1am in the morning, and we’re loving and laughing and singing and dancing together like never before!

It was awesome…;)

Thank you to my outrageously talented sister and unbelievably wise mother for sharing some true rachel and a koalalove, laughter and The Little River Band!
