I’m Pretending to Visualize...Is That an Oxymoron?

How to Use Pretending as an Adult

Pursuant to my last post about hearing the little girl chattering about how she could pretend to do this and she could pretend to do that…

girl-eating-chocolate not pretendingThere was no interest on her part that she couldn’t actually do the things she wanted to do, because she could pretend to do them….wow, what a philosophy!

Could you imagine going through life with no mental limitations?  How pure is a 5 years old’s view of the world?

The question is why do we stop pretending?

I was an only child until my sister was born when I was sixteen, so I spent a lot of time alone for most of my childhood.  I’m not asking for sympathy here, I’m explaining that I used to pretend a lot!

I made my own bows and arrows and protected the tree fort from “pretend” invading armies.  I used my GI Joe in the sand dunes to look for “pretend” buried treasure, and climbed the highest tree in the neighborhood in search of the “pretend” kidnapped princess,

I would do stunts on my bicycle in front of 100’s of “pretend” adoring fans and do flips from the diving board in front of “pretend” judges.

My point here is when I pretended as a kid, it didn’t take away any of the joy of the experience.  If you could pretend well enough, you could actually hear the roar from the adoring fans, and see the invading armies in the distance.

When kids pretend there is no doubt in their mind.  They are in the situation as if it were a hologram!

OK, so how can we apply the power of pretending when most of us gave up pretending a long time ago?

Well, just like anything else, it takes practice.  Yup, you have to relearn how to pretend, but not just relearn it, you must relive it.

Real adult visualization on success is as pure and powerful as any child’s pretend friend.

When you release the limitations placed upon you by your job, your family, and your financial status, and step into a state of pure adult pretending, you can do anything you want!

Think about that…

You can pretend to be rich.  You can pretend to be famous.  You can pretend to own a BMW X5 or a home on the ocean.

easy meditation for men in officeYou can pretend to be or do anything you like.  The great thing is, it doesn’t hurt anyone or anything to pretend.

It takes an investment of time, but if you get really good at pretending, then you will begin to feel the feelings of what these things and experiences are.

As you define the process, you may change the things you thought you wanted, because after pretending to have them, they did not give you the joy or peace you were hoping for, so then you refine your pretending.

As you define your pretending, you spend more and more time focusing on those very specific things you want in your life, and guess what?

It’s at this point that they usually start to appear.  I know it sounds like magic or self-help crap, but all of the gurus teach visualization and focus as a key to achieving one’s goals.

It’s been working in my life.  I pretended to be an author until I finished my first book (now I have two).  I pretended to start my own business until I finally did so 8 Months ago.  I pretended to become a public speaker, and now I have several speaking events booked this year.

So maybe you should give pretending a try.   Leave the limitations at the door and start pretending your way to success today!
