What Does Success Mean to You?
I’ve been pondering my definition of success and have realized some very interesting personal realities.
First, I’ve had a very lucky experience of life so far, despite the dramas dreamed up in my head, and I could die tomorrow and be happy with my successes to date.
I wonder how many of you celebrate your success even if they are little ones?
As I’m now running my own business, I’ve stated setting myself specific goals. Each time I meet or beat a goal, I consider that a success. But successes don’t need to be financial in nature.
In fact, many successes people might experience are not financial in their nature, but they may have financial effects, such as getting a promotion or having a baby.
One usually provides you more money while the other usually depletes the bank account, but neither should be viewed from a financial perspective.
So stop and think about the last time you experienced a success? Try to give it some serious thought and write it down! Or leave a comment below!
Successes can come in a myriad of scenarios…hell, sometimes simply getting out of bed can be a success if you are having a particularly bad situation in your life.
I’m going to suggest to you to start to list your successes as they occur and take some time to celebrate when they do happen.
I find a lot of people I speak with, spend an inordinate amount of time beating themselves up over the things that go wrong in life, and spend very little time focusing on the positive things happening in their lives.
A lot of people like to lay blame and would prefer to chat about their negative experiences again and again. I recall a book I read many years ago called “Raving Fans”, and I’ll never forget the statistics they highlighted:
1. On average, if someone has a negative experience with a product or service they will tell 100 other people about that experience during their lives.
2. On the other hand, on average if someone has a good experience, they tell 3 people about it.
I don’t know where these stats came from, so you’ll have to do the research yourself, but do you fall into this mold?
Do you spend more time focusing on your failures than your successes?
Well, you’re not alone! So take some time each day to identify the success you experience instead of the failure you experience.
And start to set yourself some goals. Make some hard to reach on purpose, then make them happen! You’ll start to experience a different way of thinking about success and failure.
If you’ve read any of my posts or excerpts from my book, Reading Between the Lines, The Hidden Power of Language, you’ll know I’m a big proponent of using intention and thought to assist with achieving your desires.
By focusing more intently on success versus failure, you will begin to experience a new way of going through life every day, and if you set yourself attainable goals, you can start to re-wire your brain such that success becomes an expectation, while failing seems to become a foreign concept.
Expect to succeed and you will!
