How to Find Your Third Eye – Lessons from Esoteric Wisdom

Esoteric Wisdom and Your Third Eye – Part 1

What exactly is your Third Eye?

Your Third Eye is an ancient part of your anatomy which has atrophied in modern humans due to lack of use.  Before we evolved eyesight, we used our pineal gland – Third Eye – as our primary sense of interpreting the world.

uraeusSome teachers believe the pineal gland is the seat of the “seat of the soul” and as such is your physical Third Eye.  It actually has a lens, a cornea and a retina, so it’s been dubbed the ”mind’s eye”.

The pineal gland is very soft at birth, then slowly calcifies over time.  It produces a number of chemicals used by your brain to regulate your body, like melotonin, seratonin and dopamine.  This gradual calcification slowly erodes your ability to “connect” and use your higher powers.

The interesting fact to me is that esoteric wisdom also teaches your Third Eye can be reawakened and developed with practice.  The physical atrophy can be reversed!

According to esoteric philosophers and teachers, your third eye gives you the ability for precognition, astral travel, telepathy, mental healing, etc…

You can find representations of the Third Eye everywhere you look, once you have the “eyes to see”:

  1. In the Hindu religion, the dot on the forehead represents the Third Eye awareness.
  2. Budda is often depicted with a dot on his forehead, again symbolic of the Third Eye.
  3. All Egyptian Pharaohs wore a uraeus - a headband or full head regalia with a cobra or serpent head placed directly on the forehead – Third Eye symbolism was openly ritualized in ancient Egypt – Jesus taught, “Be wise as a serpent.”
  4. The Jewish phylactery is worn on the forehead because Yahweh demanded his followers to wear the scripture next to their body…they chose the place of the third eye to wear it.
  5. The Christians have Ash Wednesday, where ashes are mixed with oil and placed on the on the forehead as a symbol of repentance – symbolic of the true power of the Third Eye and the ability it gives us to release the past and create a new future.
  6. The halos you see in so many paintings and drawings is also representative of the enlightenment provided when you use your Third Eye.

bhudda faceI’m sure you can find other examples in the world, so please come back and leave a comment if you see any other Third Eye symbolism.

I’m also sure that avid believers in any of  these faiths might have another opinion about the reasons behind these examples, but esoteric wisdom underlies all religions and has often been obscured by newer rituals or attempts to stamp out what some believe as heresy or paganism.

So just what can developing your Third Eye do for you?
