4. Have a Web Presence
I read a post recently, by a blogger who reads and reviews romance novels, in which she asks the question, ‘should authors should have blogs?’ She provides some valid reasons for both sides of the argument, but my comment is if you’re an author in today’s world, and you are serious about making a living through selling books, you HAVE to have a web presence!
Having a blog is like having a relationship – it requires commitment…so many people shy away from the blogging concept for that reason.
But it’s easy to knock up a hosted WordPress theme with some basic content and offer your readers a place to meet and chat amongst themselves…there is no excuse why you haven’t done it already!
If you don’t want all the hassles of setting everything up, you can use a company like Godaddy and buy a WordPress hosting package, or you can go set up a free site on Blogger. Like Nike used to say; Just Do It!
5. Find Alternate Markets For Your Book (Other Than Amazon)
One of my posts on easy meditation for men was reposted by a blogger who is a physical fitness coach and motivator, and it is still generating traffic to my blog!
When I originally crafted this post, it was an excerpt from my upcoming book which is about learning how to control your inner self. I certainly didn’t think it would be applicable to a weight loss program, but in hindsight it’s a perfect book for anyone trying to make dramatic changes in their lives, like losing a lot of weight!
So now I have a new target market for the book, and am looking at other target markets – you’ve always got to be on the hunt for opportunities!
Brian Judd provides hours of free book marketing content on the BookSurge site, but that is now merging into CreateSpace, so I’m not sure how much longer these webinars will be available.
Go check them out today! Brian is a book marketing specialist, and to get his insight for free is an absolute treat, so go check them out now…as I said there’s hours of free content on how to market your book in your genre.
6. Use a Professional Book Marketing Company
I mentioned Brian Judd as an example of an expert on book marketing, and as you might imagine he offers this service for a fee to both published and self-published authors.
Download a Book Production Timeline (49)where you put in your preferred ‘publish date’ and it back dates all of the pre-publishing activities you need to do…its brilliant! There are opportunities in that list which you might not have thought of.
This is a free tool from Brian Judd and it will help you sell more books…even if you’re already in print!
Brian offers a wide range of services, but the one that interests me is their full commission sales model, where they have 1800 sales agents across the world looking for non-bookstore markets for your book.
You pay a small fee to be in his catalogue, and then he takes a commission from book sales which you probably wouldn’t have found on your own anyway…
You just get a check when they close a deal on your behalf!
The great news is I’ve negotiated a deal with Brian that will save you $25!!!
Just go to premiumbookcompany.com and use the Promo word “Curtis” (without the quotation marks) on the third step of the sign-up process.
You’ll save $25 when you sign up for their commission-based sales program by using this promotional code “Curtis”
Not only will you save $25, but you’ll get an army of sales agents looking for non-bookstore markets for your book!
Please comment on any ideas you would like to add…
