I read a post recently on blogtrafficexchange by Keira about 4 things bloggers do wrong.
One of the wrong things to do is ‘posting off-topic’. Posting off-topic is writing posts about something other than the chosen subject you decided to blog about in the first place.
As a newbie blogger I am guilty as charged!
This is only one blogger’s opinion,…but she’s good enough to guest post on a popular plug-in site, so she has my respect. I posted a reply asking for any suggestions she might have to best manage my situation. She quickly replied back with several well thought out options, and some links to review.
Now THAT is blogging customer service! There is a saying in Australia, “Good On Ya!”
So I visited Keira’s blog about romance novels. The short bio on the original post I read stated she only read romance novels and reviewed them on her blog. After checking her blog out, I noticed several review posts, but also read posts on various aspects of these stories such as this provocative post about a spanking scene in a novel…
Blog Etiquette?
I’ve learned there is a certain ‘blog etiquette’ in the world of blogging. One of these blogging community ‘rules’ is “Stay On Topic!” But any given subject will surely be made up of many different aspects of that primary topic, just as spanking might be a part of a novel.
Upon further reflection of what my blog is, I’m happy with the multi-subject content so far. Please let me know if you’re not! This is a two-way street…
I started this blog to promote my upcoming book, but I also wanted it to reflect my experience with the writing and publishing process as it unfolded. The blog has evolved into being a part of that process, so posting about learning to blog is part of that experience too.
Please accept my apologies in advance if you see a post on easy meditation for men, followed by a post on quantum entanglement which will communicate to you some fascinating aspects of the world we live in, followed by a video of Darren Rowse where he answers questions from anyone who was lucky enough to be on Twitter at the moment he decided to share his wealth of blogging knowledge, followed by a post with a link to a book marketer who also provides hours of free webinar content for authors.
It’s all part of my experience and sometimes worth writing about…you might become aware of something you’ve never known before, so by default you’ve grown just a little.
See my post tomorrow about long-tail keywords…
