One of my colleagues contacted me yesterday to share the sad news that Jim Rohn had recently passed away, and she asked how I felt about that? You can read a tribute here.
I embarrassingly replied that I didn’t know who Jim Rohn was…?
She had met Jim on one of his first trips to Australia, and she and her son worked closely with him as he became their guide and mentor. The pair went on to create a publishing company which I believe is still going today.
The beauty of the internet, and several hours of research last night, allowed me to get acquainted with Jim Rohn’s philosophy and some of his more famous stories. He was a master story teller!
You can view some sample videos of him below, but what I found intriguing was his back-to-basics concepts. He would ask: “How many books have you read in the past 90 days? How many classes have you taken in the past 90 days? How have you made yourself more valuable in the past 90 days?”
My reply is, “four books, one online course and continuously adding content to the blog.” So how would you reply?
He has a great story about meeting a mentor when he was only 25 years old. The mentor asked him how much money he had invested in the past six years? Jim’s reply was, “None”. View the mentor’s reply in the video above…
Jim was raised on a farm in Iowa, and I find his very low-key way of asking tough questions a great way to get yourself out of the rut of your current situation, and to start making changes in your life, no matter how small!
You can start to read a book today, or start a course today, or smile at a stranger today. Don’t procrastinate!
I only wish I knew of Jim’s message many years ago when I was 25, so I hope this finds you well!
His voice still speaks to us through the many videos he produced…
